Stuart Robson easily rounded Sean Wilson as they exited turn two in the first heat, indeed Ben Wilson followed suit and for a while I thought even Benji Compton might do likewise. Owlerton debutant Tomasz Piszcz trapped to lead heat 2 but had Kyle Legault climbing all over him. Kyle took the lead as Tomasz started to slow on the second lap, just as Paul Cooper mounted a challenge to pass Benji Compton. Paul went wide into turn three only to find Tomasz coasting in the middle of the track and was forced to bale out. In the rerun Paul took the lead with a good first turn, and Kyle eventually rounded Benji on the second turn of the last lap.  Shaun Tacey trapped and never looked like being caught in heat 3. Tomasz trapped again in heat 4 but André took the lead exiting turn 2. Kyle was perfectly placed to move into second place when Tomasz made a slight error on lap 2, but James Wright only picked up a point when Tomasz shed a chain on the very last bend. Ricky took heat 5 from Stuart riding a very wide line.

The Wilsons took an early lead in heat 6, although it was hard to say whether Sean was team-riding or struggling to keep up? James Wright never gave up and the three of them crossed the line in the proverbial blanket finish. André took heat 7 with ease although Paul couldn't recover from a poor start, and Shaun Tacey was out again in heat 8, this time as both a rider-replacement and a tactical taking maximum points. Ricky and Richard extended the lead with a comfortable 5-1 in heat 9. Sean had to catch Kauko Nieminen before passing him on the pits turn of the second lap of heat 10, but Shaun Tacey looked disinterested after a poor start.

André won heat 11 ahead of Stuart on a tactical, and Paul passed Tomasz with a big dive on the third turn, only for Tomasz to reclaim the place with the inside line out of turn four. He followed his first point with two more in heat 12 as he trailed Ricky but outpaced Kyle, with Shaun Tacey once again trailing the field after a poor start. André and Sean made a blinding start in heat 13 although Stuart Robson was excellent value for his measley point making Sean work all the way to the flag. Paul made a good start to heat 14 but picked up unexpected drive on the inside line and came off. As he remounted Richard Hall overcooked it on the second bend and the race was stopped. Jim McGregor decided Paul was the cause of the stoppage which didn't go down too well. Kauko made a great start in the rerun and Tomasz passed Richard with a 3rd bend dive on the first lap. Richard was having none of that though and reclaimed second place at the start of the next lap. André and Sean trapped to lead heat 15 from Stuart, this time with Sean riding the outside line and looking much more comfortable.

A poor performance from the last Premier side to win at Owlerton. Stuart Robson went better than he did for his own club and rider replacement for his brother was probably a little flattering. Shaun Tacey started well but was useless when he didn't start well. Kauko improved as the meeting progressed but James Wright was a major disappointment. I expected a little more from Benji but debutant Tomasz Piszcz was worth much more than his scoreline suggests.

Middlesbrough took the Tees-Pennine Trophy in a Conference League challenge in the second half with Gary Flint and Karl Langley showing they haven't forgotten their way around Owlerton.
