With the exception of Paul Thorp who was nearly 2 seconds faster than anyone else the Vikings looked half asleep. Paul was passed by James Birkinshaw in heat 1 but flew from the start while nominated for double points in heat 6. He recovered to pass Ben Wilson in heat 11 and spoiled Sean's maximum with a blistering start in heat 15. Emil Kramer's only points were for finishing last in heat 8 after both Tigers fell. Garry Stead was passed by Andy Moore, André Compton and James Birkinshaw before trailing last in heat 12 until Ricky Ashworth ef'd. Emilliano Sanchez only beat Ben Wilson, but began to look better by heat 14. Magnus Karlsson was passed by James Birkinshaw in heat 6, and Sean Wilson in heat 13 after a blistering start. Ross Brady looked very sharp but was also passed by Birko in heat 6, and inherited the win in heat 8 after both James and Richard Hall fell while scraping the boards. Ross was nominated for double points in heat 12 but was left trailing Ricky Ashworth. He held off the challenging Richard Hall until the last bend when leader Ricky ground to a halt. Hard to say whether Richard was impeeded from where I was standing.

The Tigers looked very impressive and it will take a good team to beat them at Owlerton this season. Sean dropped his only point to Paul Thorp in heat 15 but it must be said that Paul looked seriously faster when he had a clear track in front of him. James rode marvellously except when testing the safety fence in heat 8. Ricky had no answer to the flying Paul Thorp in heat 6 and was robbed of double figures when he lost his 'flipping' primary chain in heat 12. Andy Moore will be challenging for that heat leader slot if he keeps up this form and deserved his heat 15 nomination. André was unbeaten until he finished heat 13 in a shower of sparks on the 2nd turn. Ben Wilson wasn't making the starts tonight although he passed and briefly led Paul Thorp in heat 11. Richard Hall rode far better than his score suggests and will certainly be one to watch this year.

The Tigers are the first name on the Yorkshire Post Cup. Let's hope we can gather some more silverware to go with it...
