Michanek was the pre meeting favourite having already won eleven individal meetings
so far in the course of the season including the British/Nordic and European
finals, as well as leading his club Reading to League Championship success.
Anders won his first three outings, but then was beaten by both Wolverhampton's Ole Olsen, and home favourite Bob Valentine in his last two rides. Ole dropped just one point to Bengt Larsson in heat 4, bouncing straight back to inflict Bob Valentine's only defeat in heat 5. Belle Vue's 19 year-old sensation Peter Collins could have been in with a shout if he hadn't picked up an exclusion for a starting offence in his first ride.
The meeting finished with Bob and Ole tied on 14 points each, and it was the Owlerton track record holder who won the run-off and lifted the trophy.
