The first leg of this clash had been postponed due to a waterlogged track (July 26th) and with the 'Bloaters'
only running a short season they had agreed that the Owlerton leg would carry double points.
The Tigers had received a thrashing at Bristol the previous Friday. Knowle Park was a difficult track for visitors to
master at the best of times, but the Tigers problems had been exacerbated by the rain and they eventually succumbed 20-52!
Tony Robinson was unable to defend his Silver Sash through injury and Jack Kitchen as top scorer took his place
and pulled off a tremendous win against Trevor Redmond.
The following night he was beaten at Cradley by home star Harry Bastable who broke the track record in the process.
The Bloaters started by winning heat 1 but just 5 heats later they trailed by 14! The programme had a blank at no.3
which was filled by promoting Anthony Childs from reserve. Ivor Brown was their only heat winner and he top scored
with 13 from 5 riders. Tony Robinson was recovered from his injury and rode unbeaten, Jack Kitchen had three wins,
and even Malcolm Bruce had two wins while the remaining Tigers were all at least paid for a win.
