Workington programme

The Tigers were outclassed by a team still smarting from a thrashing at Plymouth the night before. After being pulled back for taking a flyer Ricky Wells passed Dmitri to take the lead out of turn two. Rasmus retired from the back with a puncture. The Comets trapped ahead in heat 2 and Arthur seemed content to just follow them. Jason is pulled back for being too fast in heat 3, then leads the restart until forced to retire with smoke billowing from his clutch. Claus Vissing leads heat 4 with Kyle losing ground on the 4th turn every lap. Dmitri and Simon lead away in heat 5 but Kenneth rounds Simon on the fourth bend and closes in on Dmitri before rounding him of the second bend of the last lap. Comets already 10 points ahead!

Ricky traps to win heat 6 and Kyle on a tactical passes Rasmus on the inside out of turn two. Jason takes a flyer to win heat 7. Dmitri messes up the second bend on the third lap and Rasmus goes on to win heat 8. The Comets gate ahead in heat 9 and Kyle belies that he was a Comet last year. The Tigers gate ahead in heat 10 but while Jason disappears into the distance poor Nathan is mugged by both Ricky and Rasmus within the first lap. Comets a mere 18 points ahead. At least the weather is nice, and the Tetleys tasty.

I thought it might be a good idea to visit the main stand during the interval, but it is apparently too dangerous to allow people to walk past the pits gate even when the riders are all having a cuppa!

Claus is leading from Simon and Dmitri when heat 11 is stopped and awarded. A chain guard right on the racing line appears to be the reason, and Adam Roynon goes ballistic with his grease monkey! Jason cleans up heat 12 and Arthur potters around faster than Matt for the Tigers first heat advantage! Tigers lead away in heat 13 but Kyle goes too wide on the second band allowing Claus past on the third lap. Kyle is slowly away in heat 14 but manages to pass Adam at the end of the first lap. Given his choice of gate positions for heat 15 Jason boasted he'd happily go from 15m! He started ages after the others but passed his skipper on the first lap, and the home skipper at the end of lap 2. After the race he could be heard telling Claus that the only reason he hadn't made it a win was that he'd run out of tear offs. I'd probably concur!
