The Vikings having lost to the Tigers home and away in the Northern Trophy had persuaded Tommy Roper out
of retirement to strengthen the team. Another last minute change was Steve Gresham returning from an injury
sustained at Hyde Road in April. Kiwi Dave Gifford was relegated to reserve and ex-Great Yarmouth old timer
Tony Childs lost his place.
The Tigers started in fine style with five consecutive 4-2's, followed by a 5-1. The Vikings solitary heat
win came in heat 8 thanks to a double tactical substitute. Rodney Haynes was the only Tiger not to record a
win or paid win but his moment of glory was passing Steve Gresham on the last bend of heat 7 to steal the
third place point.
