The track looked to have been succesfully repaired after the weekend stockcar racing and times were consistently fast. Josh Bates had ridden sensibly dropping a point to Adam Ellis in his second ride and was following Robert Lambert home in heat 19 when a sudden blood rush ended with him in the air fence on the third lap.

After a quick rebuild he rode a perfect race to win the semi-final ahead of the mightily impressive Jack Parkinson-Blackburn. Robert and Adam had first choice of gate positions for the final leaving Josh on the unfavoured inside. When the tapes rose Robert and Adam were so involved in capturing the wide outside line they left the second bend wide open and Josh's tight inside line left him well ahead as they reached the back straight. After that he rode an inch perfect line and had extended an impressive lead by the time he reached the chequered flag and his second U21 British Championship title.
