2008 Programme The Sheffield Window Centre Tigers faced a Potters team comprising two of our own assets, two new Danes and probably the strongest reserve pair in the league. Ricky sped away to win heat 1 while Klaus Jakobsen made a tentative start on his Owlerton debut. Ben Barker and Joel Parsons had a good scrap for second place with Ben getting the verdict. Quick starting Barrie Evans led heat 2 with Mark Burrows passing Lee Smethills out of turn two to put the Potters into an early lead. André trapped ahead in heat 3 and Paul Cooper passed Jesper Kristiansen out of turn two for second place with Lee Complin trailing the field. Lee soon passed his team mate and was all over Paul like a rash when Paul caught some unexpected drive at the end of the third lap gifting second place to Lee. Ben Wilson led heat 4 with Lee Smethills getting alongside Emiliano Sanchez on the back straight. The wily Argentinean soon pulled clear and Mark Burrows wound himself up for an outside pass at the end of the third lap to share the heat. André and Paul were the early leaders in heat 5 with Ben Barker very slow from the tapes. Ben was making up yards each lap and caught Paul with an outside swoop off the last turn. Tigers hold a narrow two point lead.

Ricky went around Emiliano on the second turn to lead heat 6 with Joel challenging all the way to the finish but just not catching him. Ben Wilson sped from the gate to lead heat 7 but Lee Complin scythed past him on the second turn. Lee Smethills led heat 8 with Joel passing him on the back straight. Buzz never looked like catching him and Ben Barker passed his team mate on the last lap. Paul led heat 9 until his skipper eclipsed him on the second bend. Emiliano then got alongside out of the pits turn but Paul took a good line on the second lap and soon pulled out a good lead. Barrie fell at the end of the second lap in last place but quickly jumped back on. Lee Complin and Ricky were banging shoulders all the way around the first turn in heat 10 with Ricky getting the verdict. Lee passed Joel into third place at the end of lap 2 and Ricky caught and passed Jesper on the inside of turn 2 one lap later. Tigers now 10 points ahead.

Ben Barker was on a tactical ride in heat 11 but Ben Wilson made a better start and never looked like being caught. Sam Martin briefly challenged Klaus Jakobsen on the first lap but the Dane showed him a clean pair of heels. André led from the gate to win heat 12 by a considerable margin but Lee Smethills trailed the field. Lee put everything into a last bend attempt, just failing, but then found Jesper coasting around the first bend right in his tracks and took an awkward tumble into the fence. Ricky sped from the inside gate to lead heat 13 from Emiliano and Klaus Jakobsen with Ben Wilson making no headway at the back of the field. Lee Complin led heat 14 with Paul trying his all but not quite able to find an opening. John Adams nominated Lee and Ben Barker for heat 15 but they were like lambs to the slaughter as the unbeaten Sheffield top pair raced to their respective maximums.

Lee Smethills ended up at the hospital with muscle damage and possibly a broken bone, but with his foot in plaster he's a non-starter for Newcastle on Sunday!
