© Class Trend Ltd. Ricky got us off to a good start by outpacing the new PLRC champion in heat 1, and with Ben finishing third the Tigers started to eat into the Rebels 15 point lead from the first leg. More optimism followed as Paul Cooper rounded Simon Walker on the second lap to win heat 2 although Mark Thompson finished last, unable to find his way past Ben Barker. Kyle and Emiliano took an easy 5-1 in heat 3, and it looked good as the Tigers led heat 4, but only as far as the back straight as then Mark Thompson ground to a halt from second place. Magnus Zetterstrom quickly shrugged off close following Kyle to win heat 5. Emiliano made a poor start from gate 4 and struggled to find his way past Glen Phillips, eventually falling on the first bend on the last lap.

Ricky and Ben clawed back another four points with a big win over Emil Kramer in heat 6, and Jason Lyons did the same in heat 7 with Cooperman taking the odd point ahead of Stephan Katt. Mark Thompson traded second place with Glen Phillips before following Ben home for a 5-1 in heat 8. If Mark was able to beat him what was Emiliano doing? The Rebels first tactical ploy came off with Zorro taking the full 6 points ahead of Kyle and Emiliano in heat 9, but Ricky and Ben took another 5-1 in heat 10 which levelled the aggregate scores with Stephan Katt nearly piling into the fence following an unforced mistake on the third lap.

The Tigers moved into the lead with Jason beating Zorro, and after a ding-dong battle Cooperman rounding Glen Phillips out of the last turn in heat 11. Emiliano's win in heat 12 maintained the lead despite Mark falling at the back of the field. Ricky beat the PLRC champ again to win heat 13 with Jason third ahead of tactical substitute(?) Stephan Katt. The Tigers lead by four points and it's looking good as Kyle streaks away to lead heat 14 from Emil Kramer on a tactical ride. Paul is third ahead of Ban Barker and it's looking good for a 4-4 which would leave the Rebels needing a last heat 1-5 to force a rematch, when DISASTER hits and Kyle drops a valve. The resulting 2-7 puts the Rebels back into the lead by one point and the Tigers requiring a heat advantage from the nominated heat. Ricky leads down the back straight with Zorro in close attendance and Jason in the critical third place. The whole crowd are on their tip-toes as Ricky enters the final lap but Zorro grabs a handful of throttle and squeezes between Ricky and the fence exiting turn 2 to put Somerset into their first Knockout Cup final.

Would Benji have gone better than Mark? Would André have beaten Zorro? The difference between the sides really comes down to two engine failures, Kyle's while leading heat 14, and Mark Lemon's while on a tactical ride down at Somerset two weeks ago. The question is, can the Tigers lift themselves for the away meeting at Derwent Park on Saturday?
