2008 Programme Rain in the afternoon followed by a heavy downpour in the early evening left the track very greasy so the parade was dispensed with and we cracked on with heat 1. Ricky Ashworth got the drop on Gary Havelock to take the early lead with Paul Cooper comfortably ahead of Josh Auty who was leaving a smoke trail. Paul was back out for heat 2 but Klaus Jakobsen out gated him and never strayed from the white line even though Paul was poised ready to pounce. James Grieves trapped ahead in heat 3 with Chris Kerr on his tail. Joel Parsons couldn't make up the lost ground and André Compton seemed to have mechanical problems and retired from last place. Ty Proctor made light of the track conditions to blast around Ben Wilson on the second bend of heat 4 and Klaus extended the visitors lead by outpacing Kyle Hughes for third place. Gary led heat 5 from André but Joel rounded Josh on the second bend to share the heat but the Bears have a six point lead.

Ricky trapped to win heat 6 from Ty and Arlo Bugeja rounded Paul on the second turn. Paul wasted no time diving through the standing water on the inside of turn three to snatch the place back. James shrugged off his Owlerton jinx to win heat 7 with Ben Wilson having his work cut out staying ahead of Chris Kerr. Josh trapped ahead to lead heat 8 but Paul got better drive on the inside of turn two to take the lead. Joel dived under Klaus on the fourth turn and we pulled back to just four points behind. André suffered mechanical problems with just 1 minute to go before heat 9. Mounted on Ricky's machine he rode a good race for second place behind Ty. James anticipated the start of heat 10 and was lucky not to be pulled back while Paul and Ricky tried their all but couldn't get on terms. The Bears lead is reduced to four points.

Ben made a good start to win heat 11 from tapes to flag with Gary unable to catch him. The unbeaten James Grieves is out gated by Paul in heat 12 and with André rounding the field on turn two and then team riding we have levelled the scores. Gary and Ty made lightening starts in heat 13 and although Ricky never stopped chasing Ben stopped on the second lap. Paul replaced Kyle in heat 14 and he made a terrific start to take the lead. Klaus was second until he made a mistake on the pits turn and Joel gratefully accepted second place and levelled the scores once again. A last heat decider and all the big guns were out. André and Ricky made blistering starts and were three abreast with Ty down the back straight. Ty didn't fancy the sludge on the outside of turn 3 and let them go so we were set for a match winning 5-1. Ricky splashed through standing water on the second lap and his engine developed a chronic misfire before stopping altogether on the third lap gifting the Bears a shared heat and a match point for a 45-45 draw.
