Sheffield v Middlesbrough at Norwich, 1947

With the 'Stars' riding their final League match away at Birmingham, the Norwich promotion invited the best two visiting teams to meet each other in a challenge match. Norwich were assured of third place in the League whatever the result of their match against the 'Brummies', but both Sheffield and League champions Middlesbrough finished above them, and indeed were the only visiting teams to win at the Firs stadium.

The 'Tigers' trailed from the first heat but fought back to level the scores three times before stealing victory with a last heat win.
