Hugh made a blinding start to lead heat 1 and Ricky slotted in behind him for a lap or two before Hugh pulled clear. Adam McKinna led heat 2 until Paul Cooper passed him out wide on turn two. Trent Leverington kept Chris Mills at bay and they both passed Adam in the third turn of the second lap. Jason King trapped to win heat 3 with Rene Bach trailing the field but already trying the wide lines on his debut appearance at Owlerton. Trent popped out ahead of Chris again in heat 4 with Mark Lemon third until he drifted too wide on the third lap allowing Josh Auty to pick him off. Derek Sneddon trapped to lead heat 5 but both Richard and Joel passed him out of the second turn. Sheffield's lead stands at ten points.

Ricky traps to win heat 6 with Hugh right up Mark's exhaust but unable to pass. Jason led heat 7 from Josh, Paul and Rene but Paul suffered engine trouble on the pits turn and never got back on terms. Josh took the lead at the start of the second lap and after a brief tussle pulled clear. Rene dived under his team mate at the start of lap 4 and then had to slow to a walking pace off the pits turn as Jason was the one wearing black & white! Trent lead heat 8 but Hugh went around him and Chris dived under him out of the second turn. Mark led heat 9 until Richard swooped past on the third turn. Joel closed remorselessly in and dived past on the second turn to grab another 5-1. Ricky was penalised for delaying the start of heat 10 (rolling?) and went off 15 metres. Rene clobbered Hugh in the restart and Jason joins his team mate to grab a maximum for the Diamonds. Tigers lead by fourteen points.

Kenni Larsen is on a tactical in heat 11 and Trent replaces Derek. Trent is left standing at the tapes but Kenni gets a flyer and soaks up everything that Josh throws at him. Chris Mills rears at the start of heat 12 and baulks Jason. Joel leads from Adam until Chris goes from last to second on the third turn. Ricky led from the gate in heat 13 and Josh rounded the Diamonds out of turn 2. Paul led heat 14 but Rene powered past down the back straight. Richard eventually passed his team mate on the third lap but Rene was yards clear by that time. Richard and Joel trap ahead in heat 15 but Rene passed Joel at the start of lap 2. Joel responded by diving through on the inside of turn three, but Rene wound it on around the outside of turn one before switching back down the inside on turn two and made it stick. Excellent racing! Sheffield may have won by twenty one points but the fans were the real winners tonight.
