Good debut Owlerton outing for the Scunthorpe/Sheffield 'Tiger Cubs'. Most would benefit from a few lessons from Doug Wyer as they were very slow out of the gate but entertaining all they same. Jack Smith flew from the outside gate to win heat 1 and poor Sheldon Davis was secure in second place until his bike expired on the last lap. Kai Ward won from gate 4 in heat 2 but Stene Pijper gave everyone yards at the star but then blasted around William Hocaniuk at the end of the first lap and then his team mate on the very last bend to snatch second place. The visitors led heat 3 and Mickie Simpson tried a wide line exiting turn 2 but then hit the fence and fell heavily. Ben Trigger was sharp from the gate to lead heat 4 but Ace Pijper was fast and wide out of the pits bend and took the lead at the start of the second lap. Jake Mulford traps from gate 4, Mickie passes Ben Rathbone into second place but Luke Harrison tumbles off on the second turn, quickly remounting. Middlesbrough looking good with a 6 point lead.

Ben Trigger leads heat 6 but Jack Smith soon rounds him entering turn 3. Slow starting Sheldon never gets back in contention. Ace wins heat 7 from Jamie Halder but Danny Phillips goes too wide on the pits turn and takes a tumble. Heat 8 and Sheldon gates from gate 3(!) and Stene closes in on BenR and snatches second place on the inside of turn 2 on the second lap to level the scores. Ben leads heat 9 but Luke and Mickie share the heat. Jack wins heat 10 from gate 3 with Jamie second but Sheldon's third place puts the Tiger Cubs ahead for the first time.

Ace wins heat 11 from Jake and Ben. Danny passes Mickie on the third turn of heat 12 and Stene also passes him wide on turn 2 on the last lap. Jack and Ace are untroubled taking a maximum heat win from the visitors top 2 in heat 13. Jamie traps ahead in heat 14 but Luke passes his team mate out of turn 2 an lap three and then just fails to catch the leader on the run to the line. Jamie is back out in the nominated heat but its Ben who traps ahead. Jack and Ace follow him home content that the match was won.

A few thrills and several spills in an entertaining debut for the Tiger Cubs. Jack and Ace formed a good spearhead but there were good signs from the rest of the lads. Stene looked very impressive in his first 500cc match although he gates like a snail and Luke Harrison also looked quite tasty.

Analysis of starting gate positions:
Gate 1 - 29(+4)pts 4 wins. Gate 2 - 16(+3)pts 3 wins. Gate 3 - 23(+5)pts 4 wins. Gate 4 - 22pts 4 wins.
