The Hunters slumped to their eighth consecutive defeat. Mike Parker's programme notes spoke of the slick conditions which resulted in poor entertainment and the previous weeks 30-45 defeat by the Edinburgh Monarchs. New signing South African Trevor Blokdyk was programmed at reserve for the Hunters but was replaced on the night by a young Trevor Hedge, while the Tigers pencilled Jack Winstanley in at No.6 to replace Derrol Melbin.

The Tigers were expected to be a stern test led by ex-Hunter Guy Allott, and Frank Varey was confident that new signing John Dews would soon develop into a match winner. Guy and Ron Bagley both scored perfect maximums and along with Clive Featherby accounted for nine heat wins and seven heat advantages on the night.
