The forecast heavy rain missed us. Light drizzle kept the dust down but there wasn't enough grip and passing was at a premium. Leicester needed just 1 match point to win the group while the Tigers needed to win by more than 6 to claim all 3 match points.

Facundo led into the first bend in heat 1 and Steady rode shotgun. Jake rounded the field and led down the back straight in heat 2. Richard trapped and won heat 3 while Kevin Doolan and Lasse Bjerre had a terrific scrap over second place. Lewis Blackbird twitched at the tapes in heat 4 and spooked Jake into breaking them. Magnus Karlsson won the restart with Lewis passing Damien for third place at the start of the last lap. Richard led heat 5 with Kauko trying every which way but failing to get past. Tigers lead by 4 points.

Steady leads heat 6 from Magnus. Facundo closes in lap by lap and so nearly pipped Magnus on the last turn. Lasse's position on the start line of heat 7 was a clear threat to Ricky who simply out gated him. Kevin took Damien VERY wide on the first turn and then concentrated on trying to beat his team mate. Facundo swooped around the field to lead heat 8. Lewis tried passing Jake on the outside of the third lap and nearly ended in the pits. Richard is on fire and wins heat 9 but Joe is just the opposite and he retires on the first lap. Steady wins heat 10 from Kevin while Lasse uses some hard tactics and right turns to keep Facundo at bay. Tigers lead now stands at 8.

Kauko passes Ricky on the second turn, second lap of heat 11 while Jan does enough to hold off Jake and the Lions close the gap to 6 points. Lasse draws alongside Joe on the first lap of heat 12 and takes the lead out of turn 4. It looks like a drawn heat until Simon Nielsen goes around Jake on the last lap. Lions just 4 points down. It's "all four back" for heat 13 with Kauko cautioned for moving at the tapes. Steady traps and Ricky is raising dust right on the white line and pulling clear of Kauko for a vital 5-1. Jake replaces Damien in heat 14 and makes a superb start. Richard's outside blast takes him past both Kevin and Jake to lead down the back straight. Jake rides a tidy line and holds off Kevin right up to the last bend! Tigers are 10 points ahead so Leicester need a maximum heat win to snatch a single match point. Richard makes no mistake from the inside gate to take the lead. Simon is all over Lasse for second place but once again Lasse is a danger to anyone who gets near and Simon settles for third place content that we had just WON our League Cup group!

Who would have thought that the potential in our team would be realized so soon! In the same group as the reigning league champions and highly fancied Leicester I certainly didn't hold much hope of us progressing but I'm delighted to be proved wrong. Just got to get Joe and Damien on song and who knows what they might achieve!
