Adi Funk was missing from the Lions side, his place being taken by promoting Ray Bales and slotting John McNeil in to the reserve berth, and therein lay the difference between the two sides. The Lions reserves claimed just three points between them while Craig Pendlebury and Tony Boyle were both given extra rides on their way to a fourteen point haul. The Tigers usually went very well at Blackbird Road and this was no exception. Reg Wilson stopped in his first ride, and Doug Wyer likewise in heat 13 by which time the meeting was already won, otherwise the winning margin would have been even greater.
