This was Hull's first season in the first division having succeeded in buying Coatbridge's
license during the winter. Ian Thomas and Wally Mawdsley's programme notes spoke of the
flight to Glasgow to clinch the deal which included being bussed from fogbound Leeds to Manchester
and then having to land at Prestwich and another bus ride to arrive at the meeting five hours late!
Halifax were first night visitors (minus Eric Boocock) on a bitterly cold night and what few supporters
braved the elements saw the Vikings fight their way back into the match and grab a draw for their efforts.
Jim McMillan became the fans favourite as he top scored with a fifteen point maximum!
The Tigers proved to be a sterner test and dominated from the starting gate on a rain soaked track.
Bob Valentine,
Doug Wyer and Reg Wilson between them won 10 heats with only Robbie Gardner and Jim McMillan
taking the chequered flag for the homesters and Jurgen Hehlert and Steve Gresham failing to open
their accounts.
