Graham Plant took just one meeting to decide he'd had enough and had retired at the grand-old age of 29. Young Paul Sheard was his replacement and Eric Boothroyd's programme notes quoted "his equipment is absolutely first class and his attitude is right". A fall and an engine failure in the meeting were followed by another engine failure in the second half. Mike Lohmann was also absent and Hull's Bobby Beaton was their choice of guest.
Steve Wilcock beat Kenny Carter in the second-half "Reserves Chance" and the senior final finished; 1st Doug Wyer, 2nd Reg Wilson, 3rd Tormod Langli, 4th Craig Pendlebury.
