Eric Broadbelt received nasty facial injuries in a heat 2 crash in the 'Dews Trophy' meeting one week previously. Dennis Gavros promoted Mitch Graham from reserve and drafted in precocious young talent Kenny Carter. Mick McKeon was contesting the Inter- Continental final and his place was taken by guest Phil Collins.

It was all change for the Tigers too as Rauli Makinen had not returned from Finland and the Tigers promoted Billy Burton from reserve and called-up their own No.8 Nicky Allott. Bernie Perrson was also at the Inter-Continental final and the Tigers made a great choice bringing Reidar Eide in as their guest replacement.

Doug Wyer was pointless from his first two rides and the Dukes held a four point advantage after heat 6. Craig Pendlebury led home Reidar Eide to level the scores in heat 7, but suffered engine probles as the Dukes went two ahead in heat 10. Doug got his mojo back to win heat 11 and Billy held off Phil Collins to regain equilibrium. The Dukes suffered a massive blow when Chris Pausey retired from second place behind Mike Lohmann in heat 12 leaving the scores level and a last heat decider. Doug and Reidar gave Ian no chance and the Tigers became only the second away team team to win at the Shay so far this year.

Jergen Johansson won the junior final with Phil Hollingsworth a faller, while Reidar Eide made it a night to remember winning both his heat and the senior final.
