Return to Sept 29th British League meeting details The Dukes were 14 points ahead when then rain brought an end to proceedings back in April. The same happened again in July although this time the Tigers were sitting pretty 10 points ahead. In the League the Dukes had been doing very well, but then in quick succession they lost Per Hansen with a leg injury, Mike Hiftle with a broken elbow and then Captain Eric Boocock with a broken arm and elbow! John Louis was the choice of guest against the Pirates but the visitors foreign contingent were all on form and Lofqvist, Fossengen, Woryna and Wirebrand scored 41 points between them to end the Dukes unbeaten home record.

This time the Tigers opened an eight point lead after just three races and although the Dukes tried hard to pull themselves back into the match the Tigers never surrendered their lead, inspired by a perfect maximum from Arnie Haley.

The Tigers returned three weeks later for their British League encounter. To see the details of the meeting click the programme image on the right.
