Bob Paulson took a nasty knock in the second-half at Owlerton the night before and was sidelined for four weeks. Craig Pendlebury was promoted into the team and Div.2 Riders Champion Carl Glover filled in at reserve. Bob Valentine got us off to a good start beating home favourite Barry Thomas in heat 1 and the Tigers took the lead in heat 3 thanks to Doug and Arnie after Dave Morton fell. Dag Lovaas beat Reg and the home skipper Hugh Saunders took third ahead of Carl in heat 4 to peg the Tigers lead back to 2.

Bob and Craig both outpaced Dave Morton in heat 5, but Len Silver gave Dag a tactical substitute ride in heat 6 and he and Barry headed Reg to negate the previous heat. Dag won heat 7 but Doug and Arnie shared the points. Geoff Maloney fell in heat 8 and Craig and Carl gladly accepted the 5-1 and the Tigers move 6 points ahead.

Barry and Dave Morton hit back with a 5-1 in heat 9 but disaster in heat 10 with Barry grinding to a halt. Doug and Arnie's 4-2 puts the Tigers 4 ahead with three heats remaining. Bob wins heat 11, Barry heat 12 and Dag heat 13 but all three heats were shared as the Tigers hang on to their lead.
