Another last heat decider! The Glasgow Tigers arrived without either Steve Lawson or Jesper Olsen. Rider replacement was allowed for their No.1 and junior James Grieves was drafted in at reserve. Aussie Shane Bowes was making his return from injury having smashed his pelvis in an accident at the North Arm track back home during the winter. Steve Knott, Simon Green and Louis Carr had all taken knocks during the ill-tempered match against Peterborough the week before but were all back on track.

Neil Collins was kept busy with extra rides as both rider replacement and tactical substitute, but he and Hungarian Robert Nagy were their only heat winners. Neil Evitts rode unbeaten, and Peter Carr would have emulated him but for being left standing at the tapes in heat 11. Robert Nagy finished last in heat 13 to allow the home Tigers into a six point lead and was back out in heat 14 as a tactical substitute against Sheffield's weakest pairing. The predicted 5-1 set up a last heat decider with Neil Evitts declining the nomination. It was the Carr brothers who lined up against the Glasgow top guns but were comprehensively out gated. Peter passed his brother on the first lap and then set about the opposition passing Robert Nagy on the second lap and diving under Neil Collins on the third to steal victory on the night.

In the Reserves League match Rob Homer came to the Cubs aid inflicting the first defeat on James Grieves in the last heat to force a draw.
