The first test match at Newcastle had been rained off, and the second at Poole had resulted in the narrowest 55-53 win to England. In this, the last match, the visitors made an electric start as multiple world finalists Antoni Woryna and Pawel Waloszek won the first two heats, followed by young pretenders Henryk Glucklich and Edward Jancarz in the next two leaving them with a tasty 10 points lead. Charles Ochiltree elected to give his team a chance to redeem themselves and by the interval they had reduced the deficit to just 2 points.

After the interval Mr. Ochiltree found that his reserves Ray Wilson and Tommy Roper were both on top form and in their 6 rides they were beaten by the opposition just once. With Martin Ashby winning all his second half outings and only one last place from Eric Boocock the Lions turned the match around into a fourteen point victory.
