Bengt Larsson was back on domestic duty in Sweden and the Tigers were operating rider replacement in his absence. John Dews had been struggling as of late and had asked to be relieved of the captaincy. Jim Airey celebrated his new role with a 5 ride full maximum.

Jim also won the second-half final from Bert Harkins, Doug Templeton and John Dews, and the novice race was won by Peter Maxted (Brian's kid brother) from Stuart Ulph, Sid Sheldrick and Stuart Jay.
