The
Tigers were missing both Bob Paulson and the programmed Billy Bales and called
up juniors Dave Baugh and Aussie Guy Hawkes. The Aces, already using rider replacement
for Tommy Roper, also lost skipper Cyril Maidment at short notice, promoting
Bill Powell from reserve and calling up the 'Colts' skipper Taffy Owen.
The two sides were evenly matched until the Tigers took consecutive wins in heats nine, ten and eleven and even two tactical substitute rides in the last two heats couldn't get the Aces back into contention.
