The Crusaders borrowed Karl Fiala from Rye House Rockets to cover for Grahame Banks who was injured trying to avoid the fallen Arthur Browning in last weeks match against Scunthorpe. Arthur suffered five broken ribs and a punctured lung and was expected to be out of the saddle for quite some time. Johnnie Hoskins programme notes spoke of Rhodesian sensation 20 year-old Mike Ferreira who had bagged nine points against the Stags in only his second appearance at reserve, and who had qualified for the second half final to boot. Les Rumsey was averaging 10.91, Steve Koppe 10.16, and reserve Grahame Clifton had hit top form and was on 9.33 explaining why Canterbury were second in the National League just two points behind Ellesmere Port with two matches in hand.

This must have been one of Rauli Makinen's best and last outings for the Tigers. The 31 year old Finnish Ice and Longtrack champion only scored 7 points in his 5 league appearances for the Tigers, three coming from the home match against Leicester. He returned home for his World Championship rounds in June and was never seen in Sheffield again...
